Women's Lib' and all that comes along with it

Yesterday my mum and i were catching in the evening as she prepared dinner as we often do as it's just the two of us now and we got to talking about some recent renovations done in our kitchen. I mentioned the badly done finishing or more like the lack of it to my mum. Point to note here, i have some OCD tendencies and for those who may be reading and have no idea what that is, OCD is obsessive compulsive tendencies think of the TV series,' The Monk ' or 'Sheldon' from the TV series ' The Big bang Theory now mine is not at such extreme levels but i like things ordered, neat and in their place. Growing up my father used to say when you do something do it well or don't bother at all. This ensured that to this day i will not start something that i don't intend to see through to the end. So it was very irritating for me to see the fundi do some shoddy finishing and the few times i happened to be around i would always comment on it and ask for it to b...

Life 101 or Como Todo Sobre......

Sometimes the hardest thing in life is knowing which bridges to cross and which bridges to burn. And sometimes a man can meet his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.if it simply comes all in the beginning it wouldn't be better. Deep huh.... I found this as a draft of a post that i started writing a few years ago and as much as i have a great memory (my friends call it elephant), i don't recall what i was thinking about or even why i abandoned it halfway. But since i started it and it was such a good beginning, it would be a shame not to complete it. Yesterday i left class in the evening, one of those classes where the lecturer is pretty cool and has a way of bringing to life whatever she is teaching and it was on family communication, which was pretty interesting considering that in church we have just finished a sermon series on generations, which is on family. So i got into a matatu immediately which is not often the case simply cz i never see the need to allow myself t...

New Seasons- A reason to be grateful

It's been a long time since i wrote anything and a lot has happened in my life. I would like to think that i am wiser, as i am definitely older. Life has a funny way of creeping up on you and before you realize it, another month, another year year is ending. This is how 2018 has felt, it was January and i was busy celebrating a new year and coming up with well meaning new year resolutions and i blinked and it's the end of October. The main thing that i have learnt through it all is to savor the moments. To be grateful for the small things and the big things too, after all the joy in life is not to have many days but to have life in your days. Think about that for a minute..... We are often in a hurry and forget to enjoy the view on the journey. Being grateful is something we need to practice more of, it should become a daily habit. Don't wait until one is dead to sing their praises but tell them now while they are still around and able to hear and appreciate it. Take time t...

Once When i was Little

i believed in a pot of gold waiting at the end of the rainbow. life was one big game or treasure hunt, and under every rock was a gem waiting to be discovered. Friends were easily made and friendships were forever. Got such a good feeling from playing in the dirt. There was nothing we couldn't do. I believed more then; i could pretend more then, that this life could only show me good times. I dreamt more then,i could be free more then, There was a time i trusted everyone, i wish i could recapture the innocence, the beauty and the wonder of it all. Once when i was little.

Headstones Pt 10

The green light was given and all the paperwork was finally complete. Kimende smiled as he perused the documents that Samy had delivered earlier. They were for his casinos which were now registered and according to Samy the slot machines and gaming tables would arrive next week. With a satisfied smirk Kimende reluctantly set the documents safely in the safe. He picked up the other documents on his desk which were the completed feasibility studies for his new enterprise. As well as all the necessary paperwork for the funeral home. Things were well on track with all the pieces falling into place. Ngoma had not failed him and he was now on the way to legitimizing his businesses. The transport business was off to a good start and the people of Matuu were so happy with the wells that his company dug for them that they sung his praises to all and sundry. Their first clients included a mistress to a local politician who had overdosed according to the medical report even though in reality she h...

Our Love is Loud

The curtain falls on yet another year and marks the beginning of a new season the year 2010 no more 00.Heard someone asking what do we call this decade the tens?? coz before we had the 80s then came the 90s but after the millenium the confusion begun was it the 00s and now what is it. It was a tough year, challenging, happy and yet also a strange year coz not many things stand out sure a few big events took place but generally it feels and am sure many will agree it was a year that passed by in a blur. One day it was January and before you knew what hit you it was June and you were left wondering where did the rest of the year go to. We have learnt some hard lessons repeated others that we didn't learn our first time around grown both in girth for some of us and in grit hopefully everyone. Lost some special people both near and close. Bennie mac,the king of pop himself MJ and those much closer to home Nick you fought the good fight Priscila you were a bright star gracing us with you...

I Carry your Heart With Me

This is the title of a beautiful poem written by EE Cummings many years ago yet his words are as real and relevant today as they ever were. Am not much of a poetry fan but occasionally one captures my mind and causes me to pause and ponder a common truth told in a fresh way or a new previously unheard of truth which broadens my mind. This is one of the latter an old truth presented in such a fresh way it causes one to be mometarily blindsided like a beautiful sunset or a genuine laugh hope you enjoy and savor it just as i did. remember the line from tyler perry's diary of a mad black woman what shemar moore told kimberly Elise. yeah it was there when he proposed and no am not nuts for remembering the lines. I Carry Your Heart With Me i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)i am never without it(anywhere i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling) i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want no world(for beautiful you are my wor...

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by And that has made all the difference. by: Robert Frost

By The Well

They say a rest is the best medicine or something like that. Got to test that recently during my leave and i must say it was all that and more. stress fell away like layers and burdens off my back. Suddenly i felt lighter even though i had no idea i was burdened in the first place. It was great to be away to do nothing but slow down look and marvel at God's creation, stop and smell the flowers remebering what it is like to laugh from deep down. Come away my beloved that's what the groom constantly tells his bride daily "come away and spend some time with me let me love on you" and that's exactly what i did.Such a shame that the bride would only offer excuses never taking the groom up on his offer until it was too late. Now i understand the value of the sabbath my focus has been realigned and all is well again. What you want might hurt you and what you need might pass you by so watch out!!!!!!

In all Things

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”- Philippians 2:3-4 This is the verse for the day yet it is increasingly hard for me to do this today of all days. All sorts of emotions are churning inside me filling my heart to overflowing. I think of my prayer this morning and i bow my head in shame for its as if me capital ME is the subject matter. "Lord i want this i want that and why didn't you do that for me i whine over and over forgetting his goodness and blessings. Paul talks about learning to be content whatever was happening at any given time.Easy for him to say right no wrong this is coming from a man who was beaten four times and not the kind of beating we get from our folks with a wooden spoon. No were talking flogging by Roman soldiers with whips 39 lashes across his back. The law prescribed 40 lashes only but i...

Headstones pt 9

Jelo got home at around seven in the evening. He liked to be early enough to have dinner with Mo and the kids daily. He would get there as the children were still doing their homework and often would help out his son and daughter as they waited for dinner to be served. A lot could be said about Mo and was said the neighbors weren't the most friendly but what could not be denied was the fact that she was a great mother and a good wife. It was all his fault that their marriage was failing had been for a long time. They put up a front for the children and the neighbors but it had not been working for a long time now. Jelo was a hard working man an accountant with a big firm and money was not one of the issues affecting their marriage. He and Mo met at the university and struck up an instant rapport. She was beautiful, smart and better yet he had fun with her like one of the boys. Soon they were spending quite a bit of time together outside the lecture halls. Mo was studying to be a tea...

Headstones Pt 8

It was a quarter to five in the evening and all the men were assembled in the board room waiting for the meeting to begin. Kimende had asked all his lieutenants to be there and none had disappointed him for they all knew what the consequences would be. He sat oblivious to their presence studying some documents. Occasionally he would sip his tea at his elbow and continue reading. Finally he set them aside and looked up. "You all know why were here so without wasting time lets get to it. where is the report i asked for? Samy signaled for the lights to be dimmed and turned on the overhead projector. They all watched the video in silence and when it was over turned expectantly to Samy to explain. "It is the law of large numbers."Huh what is that?" it describes the expected stability of the mean of a random variable. "Speak clearly commanded kimende who was as confused as his men."Well this is a mathematical formula which states that if you take a random variabl...

Headstones Pt 7

"Thank you for coming down and identifying the body i know it can't have been easy for you" as he led the distraught woman out of the morgue. She allowed herself to be led by the gentle hand at her elbow out of the morgue even though his very touch was loathsome to her. They walked out into the warm sunshine although she doubted she would ever be warm again for an icy fist seemed to hold her heart in its grip and she vainly wondered if she would ever thaw out again. Walking in a trance she had no concept of time or grip on reality. In a daze the doctor helped her into a cab and gave the driver instructions on where she lived. He then paid the appropriate fare and she sunk back in her seat oblivious to the cab drivers attempt at small talk or her surroundings. She roused herself as from a deep sleep when the cab driver's voice penetrated the fog in her mind as he told her they had arrived. This was a day she wished she had never seen or could forget yet neither of thos...

It is well..........

Even if the leaves shed all their leaves, the fruit trees their anticipated bounty beforehand or the animals all around their young and the lights be switched off the bills piling up by the second and the taps be dry mirroring my own dry, parched soul and the music be turned to noise in my ears Dearest friends turned into foes Family scattered far and wide Hague beckoning so alluringly Rotten maize,no spoilt maize my ugali i fear eating Oil i need oil i lack the clouds shut up no rain in sight my dreams shattered into jagged pieces corruption so endemic disease so rampart death so final yet still in him my hope lies And yet will i praise him The alfa and the Omega The beginning and the end The bright morning star.

Headstones Pt 6

It was two years later and Tina had delivered twins whereas Mo was the proud mother of a baby boy. The truth had not yet come out regarding the true paternity of the babies but as both women had something to hide, their fear kept them both silent. All that was about to change for Tina after the phone call she had received.Thabo was coming into town and he wanted to see her. Since her trip to Kisumu they had left things as they were not bothering to keep in touch realising that what they had had been a holiday fling and preferring to return to their lives. This had worked perfectly for both as Tina had been separated from her husband who had left her for another woman. He had eventually divorced her and she had been left trying to pick up the shattered pieces of her heart and life. That was until her family found out she was pregnant, they convinced her husband to take responsibility for his actions and they were reconciled. His obvious reluctance was washed away the moment he held his s...

Headstones pt 5

Kimende was a fair man gave his men a proper cut did not demand too much compared to other bosses and didn't micromanage his men. He always knew what was going on much to the surprise of his men but he never interfered in their dealings as long as he got his rightful share. But he was a hard man who did not suffer fools or condone mistakes either. Men who had who had worked for him told chilling tales of how he would be laughing with someone then at the end would order his death or if the person had really displeased him would strike the first blow then have his men finish him off. His lieutenants quickly learned not to set him off although that was tricky as it was difficult to know what was liable to set him off. Kimende was what would be called a smart thug. He started off in school being the leader of a group of boys who he used to do his dirty work for him. Soon it was well known if you wanted contraband or had an issue to settle with anyone to come to kimende whose services w...

Headstones Pt 4

It was around 11 o'clock and the waiting room was filled to capacity. One side sat the patients who had already been attended to and were now waiting for the next part of the process. Others were yet to see the doctor and they sat patiently and some not so patiently. There were groans, moans, tears on the faces of the women and children waiting there that not even the rooms cheery colors would diffuse. The stack of magazines went virtually ignored as most people were in too much pain to bother and the rest could not be bothered to pick up agricultural digest or some other random title. Mo sat quietly holding on to Tina's hand for support and mostly as a source of warmth. They were here to get some tests done and both were silent in the shock and fear. Mo had a sinking sensation in her stomach and she was dreading getting her worst fears confirmed. Tina wondered how her best friend would react to the news. Would she ever forgive her? She was a pragmatist and was expecting the wo...

100 Questions

This was supposed to be a continuation of Head stones pt 3 but as i read earlier entries i paused wondered about all the stuff that sounds so good and is very true yet how much of it do we really follow i wonder. As i listen to Detrick haddon i find myself questioning a lot of the so called wisdom that were so quick to dish out and take in yet that's all we do. I find myself still grappling with the same question i was asking myself this morning. Why am i so angry? and what or whom am i angry at or with? God says i will keep in perfect peace those whose mind is stayed on me and with all this emotions churning inside me i don't understand what this means. Its easy to agree even think you are doing something simply because you agree in theory but that is such a subtle trap we all unknowingly fall into. Just coz you agree with something doesn't mean you are doing it. Turned a year older on Tuesday and that is always a time of review and reassessment.I have to sit down look at ...

Life 101

Sometimes the hardest thing in life is knowing which bridges to cross and which to burn. And sometimes a man meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it. If it simply comes all in the beginning it wouldn't be better. Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals;cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow delightful conditions, all heavenly environment;all of these if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built. They only fall that strive to move,or lose that care to keep. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Headstones pt 3

Njogu body lay on a cold cement floor besides many other more gruesome looking bodies. That was all that was in store for him no dignity but that wasn't so surprising considering he never had much use for it even while he trampled doggedly in life. Dignity was a word that he had no use for personally or for others. There lay bodies beside him on top of him stacked haphazardly, with deep cuts congealing with blood, some had various body parts missing though some of those limbs were strewn all over. It seemed a bad road accident had taken place and the casualties kept steadily rising expaining the bodies with huge cuts and missing body parts. The city motuary was where all bodies of any questionable death were brought such as road accidents, murder or any where the cause of death was not known. Njogu had ended up here from Mukuru Kayaba where some criminals had been involved in a shooting with police officers of the dreaded isukuti squad. His body was riddled with suprisingly not bull...
